Soul of the Foot (Duhuldeki Deney)

2025 · Canada / Turkey · 66 min · Essay Film

Moving between intimate family archives and the shifting political landscapes of Türkiye, Soul of the Foot is an essay film on memory, displacement, and the futures that never came to pass. Spanning twenty-five years, from the 1999 solar eclipse and Türkiye’s aspirations to join the European Union to the uncertainties of the present, the film weaves home videos, chance encounters, and 16mm observations into a fragmented portrait of a country in transition. Suspended between personal recollection and collective history, it searches for a sense of belonging amid the traces of an unfinished political promise.

Winner — New Visions Award (FIPRESCI & SCAM), RIDM 2025, Montréal.
